It's been years since Big Oil found excuse after excuse to jack up their prices. In 2004 the price of a gallon of gas was about $1.50. It spiked in 2008 and then fell dramatically, but since then went up and up and up to finally seem to rest at the current $3.40 or so. So why is this? Can anyone tell me? Things in the Middle East seem to have taken on a relative stability. Terrorism seems to be at a lull these days.
If you're like me, cynicism may force you to conclude that this was a scam. You may think that all the forces colluded to raise prices and that we may never get back to cheaper oil. This is not a tax issue, where we tax oil on purpose to dissuade use and conserve. This is (still) an amazing windfall to the Oil Companies. In the meantime all of us are at the mercy of Lying, cheating industrialists that get richer and richer.
It shouldn't surprise anyone, if you watch Big Pharma, they've been doing the same thing.
When I started using insulin to stay alive, about 10 years ago, the price of a vial was $25.00. Now it is $216.00. Seems like the way you get to rape the American Consumer is by having the word "Big" in front of your industry.
All of "big" industry seems to be colluding to screw the country, aided and abetted by our own elected government. I'm totally disheartened by the latest developments with Net Neutrality, but not surprised.
Something has to be done to help the Middle Class in this country. This is just disgusting.
