Received this e-mail today from Senator Mark Warner (D. VA):
Legislation that would restore emergency unemployment assistance failed to overcome a filibuster in the Senate on Thursday by one vote -- just one vote.
This bill was paid for. It wouldn’t have added anything to deficit. But it would have extended a crucial lifeline to 1.7 million Americans who are struggling to find a way to keep the heat on and put food on the the table while they search for their next job. We can’t give up on these folks.
Will you join me and sign my petition and urge the Senate to end this filibuster immediately? We only need to persuade one Senator to move this bill forward and provide a little bit of hope to so many who are desperate for help.

This is a bipartisan effort. Extending these benefits when long-term unemployment has remained this high has always received both Republican and Democratic support.
But some in Washington are more interested in making this about procedural gamesmanship and partisan political maneuvering than doing right by the folks who desperately need our help.
That’s just wrong. Together, let’s send a clear message: getting in the way of emergency unemployment benefits for Virginians and all Americans will not stand.
Please click here to add your name today. It’s time to end this filibuster.
