It seems that the Kansas House is trying desperately to beat out Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina in the race for the Stupidest Tea-Flavored Legislative Body in America. I give to you...
A proposal to require all children to present proof of citizenship prior to enrollment in public school.
As mentioned in the article, a SCOTUS decision already outlawed this kind of stuff, but Rothlisberg is hoping that merely intimidating Hispanic students rather than outright banning them from school will be sufficient to get his rocks off.
It disgusts me that anyone would think this is a good idea. They're children. They don't care about the political circumstances of their being here. Why should we seek to deny children the right to an education? What possible good does it do? Children are children. They don't come screaming out of their momma's lady parts with a little Mexican or American or Chinese or Nigerian flag stamped on their forehead. They come out as.. wait for it.. a human being in need of an education. Anyone who says education shouldn't be provided for anyone who wants it, regardless of nationality, is despicable.
