Last week on Democracy Now, activist/actor George Takei was asked what he thought of Rush Limbaugh's comments on the Arizona discriminations bill. The host played a tape of Limbaugh rambling about how Governor Jan Brewer was bullied.
Limbaugh says (forgetting his proper English):
"The governor of Arizona 'being bullied. She 'being bullied by the homosexual lobby there in Arizona and elsewhere. She 'being bullied by the nationwide drive-by media, she 'being bullied by certain elements of corporate America, in order to advance the 'gay agenda'. I guess in that circumstance, bullying is admirable."
George Takei's basic reply to Limbaugh's spew?
"You have to consider the source… Rush Limbaugh has no credibility at all."
Dismissed! Takei seems to wonder why Rush Limbaugh's name is even mentioned in the conversation. Rush Limbaugh doesn't count. The majority of Americans agree.
The video, however, about Takei's views on the discriminatory bill and 'Razing Arizona', is worth the watch.
How is Limbaugh still on the air? Well, when you factor in Koch/Tea Party support and dirty money, you can bypass the fact that you are costing your employers millions in lost revenue and reputation. You can get away with the public demanding your termination. And you can continue spinning Right Wing propaganda, misogyny, homophobia, racism and bigotry.
Media Matters
"The arrangement was simply FreedomWorks paid Glenn Beck money and Glenn Beck said nice things about FreedomWorks on the air," Armey, the former House majority leader, told Media Matters Friday. "I saw that a million dollars went to Beck this past year, that was the annual expenditure."
Armey, who left the organization this past fall after a dispute over its internal operations, said a similar arrangement was also in place with Rush Limbaugh, but did not know the exact financial details.
FreedomWorks
FreedomWorks originated from a conservative political group funded by David H. Koch called Citizens for a Sound Economy, which in 2004 split into Americans for Prosperity, led by President Nancy Pfotenhauer, and a remainder group which merged with Empower America and was renamed FreedomWorks, led by President and CEO Matt Kibbe.[4] Dick Armey, Jack Kemp and C. Boyden Gray served as co-chairmen of the new organization with Bill Bennett focusing on school choice as a Senior Fellow.
But one day Rush Limbaugh, if he doesn't die first, is going to say that one thing that will cause the public and Republican party to demand termination.
Many blame the Clear Channel CEO Bob Pittman, and Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey, for for perpetuating and promoting hate media, by allowing the likes of Limbaugh to stay on air. Clear Channel is so far in debt, it actually is funny, and it gets worse every year. How do Pittman and Dickey keep their jobs? It's not hard to imagine they might be on the receiving end of Koch dirty money as well. Why else would company owners allow one person to cost them millions?
So then, knowing this, what keeps the public Limbaugh protests and boycotts going? People have the need do something, and they know this is bigger than Rush Limbaugh. The movement is about sending a message to all companies and media that the consumers/public are fed up and will no longer support or tolerate hate speech in the media. We've seen it before in this country where ugly media is stomped out, and we will see it again. Here's to all those who don't give up. This is how many become involved.
