Amid all of the fallout from Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and Darryl Issa butting head today, a FOX news daytime host gave curious (to say the least) advice to former IRS official Lois Lerner. More below.
Lerner has taken the Fifth before, and did so again today. FOX News host Jon Scott stated
I can see why if you’re getting death threats, why you wouldn’t want to open yourself up to more scrutiny . . . But at the same time, it would seem that answering some of the questions might cause some of these people who are so angry to ease up.
Raw Story has a full write up about Scott's advice
here.
Scott's comments were in response to U.S. News and World Reports' David Catanese, who told him "She felt she was getting death threats, that she felt concerned about her safety" - in light of her attorney asking the committee not to call her to testify due to the death threats.
So, does Jon Scott think Lerner's attorney is wrong to have her plead the Fifth? Is he suggesting that if anything happens to her, she only has herself to blame for "not coming clean" (my words)? Is it both?
Is he trying to rationalize the threats on her life? Is he joining those who suggest that intimidation and bullying is an acceptable method of getting your way?
