Wall Street's preferred candidate Gina Raimondo (D. RI)
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras (D. RI) is pulling a play from Elizabeth Warren's (D. MA) playbook:
We have to get the big money out of our elections. I've been saying this since long before I entered this race, and I will continue to champion this cause long after the dust has settled here.
That's why my campaign and I first proposed "The People's Pledge", an agreement to keep the Super PACs and other outside money out of our race. We've seen similar agreements work in races across the country, like the one in Elizabeth Warren's race in 2012 – let's make it work here.
But for this to work, we need all of the candidates to sign on. Will you join me today in urging all of Rhode Island's gubernatorial candidates to sign on to The People's Pledge?

We've already seen a hedge fund billionaire write a six figure check to influence this race, but by signing our pledge we can all agree that we are committed to a fair and open election without the big money donors trying to buy this election.
This election is about you, the voters in Rhode Island, not about who can line up the most big donors, so I hope you'll join me today in urging all candidates in this race to take the pledge. Add your name now!

Together we can restore dignity to our country's elections. Thanks for stepping up today.
Yours,
Angel Taveras
