I certainly want to cover the World Cup but I'm hard pressed how to do it since Football is (let's just face it) boooooooring. Like Hockey only less fights (I renew my call for base runners being allowed to keep their bats). I'd invite someone to help me but I've had mixed results from that in the past (you know who you are).
The Brazil World Cup, while not as extreme as the 2018 version in Qatar, has the same problems. Future useless sub-standard Stadiums built on the backs of slave labor at great expense for the host nation and big graft for the crony contractors. Slum clearing pogroms by militarized, jackbooted, brown shirt 'police'. Sound familiar, like something happening much closer to home?
Well, it should.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento will not be talking about any of that, he will be talking about the 'Beautiful Game' in which he was an amazing and revolutionary player.
I told you I need someone else to cover it.
Mark Mazzetti does the torture beat for The New York Times and is infamous for leaking Maureen Dowd's review of Zero Dark Thirty (which is now shown to be entirely self serving CIA lies and propoganda) back to his CIA handlers.
Sigh.
