I apologize to Daily Kos for expressing a wish of ugly death to Dick Cheney. Altough I was unaware of the rule against it, that is no excuse to violate the posting rules so I was justifiable prevented from posting till I acknowledged my mistake and agreed not to behave that way in the future. Although Dick Cheney is a horrific person who has displayed cowardice, cruelty, and is personally responsible for implementing policies which resulted in the deaths and misery of millions of people inluding thousands of Americans which drove my desire that he suffer, I should have been a bigger person and supressed my rage that a massive injustice has once again been perpetrated upon us all. I was merely pandering to my own ugly rage. It is better to let sleeping dogs lie. Thinking in an ugly way can lead to behaving in an ugly way.
For example, when the police were acquitted after beating Rodney King it would have had a much more positive impact if those who disagreed with the verdict had quietly expressed their disappointment in measured tones instead of rioting. If that had happened the police might have realized that they committed a horrific crime against an undeserving victim and changed their behavior, instead of engendering a feeling of impunity within the police department to the injustice. What good is it to express opposition to injustice and the people who create, and promote it, if it means we sacrifice our politesse.
I will instead purse my lips in a frown and remember that if I can't say something in measured tones it is better to remain silent. After all it worked so well for the civil rights movement.
Game theory does not work in the real world. If you behave in a decent way to someone and they take advantage it is far more effective to rationally express disappointment with their behavior instead of inflicting a punishment on them in the hope that they will realize if they do it again then they will suffer worse. I will instead take heed to the philosophy of Jesus and "turn the other cheek" and lead by example. It has been shown to work throughout history in the 2000 years since his death whereas "the payback's a mother" has never been shown to be effective anywhere.
What was I thinking?
