Turns out shutting down traffic on the world's busiest bridge is
a lot more expensive than just a bunch of orange cones:
Gov. Chris Christie’s reelection campaign has been billed for at least $314,000 on legal fees so far in representing itself in regards to the George Washington Bridge lane closure investigations, a total that exceeds the committee’s campaign cash on hand.
So now as he considers 2016, Christie has an additional hurdle: He must also ask donors to foot the bill for his legal expenses. And that might create a little catch-22, because why would donors want to fund his presidential campaign if he's piling up debt because of a scandal back home—and why would donors want to help him pay for his scandal defense if he's not going to run for president? Of course, that issue will become moot if the Christie scandal ends up becoming the focus of a grand jury investigation. If that happens, he'll no longer be allowed to use his campaign to pay his legal fees.
