Since Ben messed with the TC flow by posting a make-us-all-smile diary, I woke up this morning fully embracing my mission: to drag us back to Unsmiling Seriousity. I did try, I tell ya! To hear why it didn't pan out that way and I am subjecting you to YET ANOTHER happy diary, follow me below the smiling orange squigglie after a word from our sponsor...
Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
The day started off so promising, with a curmudgeonly grumpy post on Facebook about how living with a persecution complex and a victim mentality must be a crappy way to be. Then, once the kids were up and moving (they're home because MA has not one but TWO school vacation weeks, in February and April) I explained that today was Spring cleaning Day, and we'd be tackling their bedrooms.
I fully expected them to last a half hour at most before the whining, arguments and pleading to do something else ensued. But to my utter shock, several hours elapsed and both rooms showed dramatic proof of hard work. No fighting, no grumbling, just three happy people ready to break for lunch.
OK, I thought, I can get us back to gloom and argumentative... I'll use the nukular option!
So kids, would you like to go out for lunch? Pick a place you both agree on!
I want to know who put the Universe in such a good mood, because... one child suggested a place, and the other agreed readily. Twenty minutes later we're feasting on the best roast beef or grilled cheese sandwiches around, with fries and onion rings, and we've all had fun making our own personalized drink flavors.
I realized there would be no mud in Joyville tonight, and that it was going to be a happy diary. Of course, THEN the Muse started humming that song, and now I had an earworm. Which I quickly decided could only be squashed by finding other songs so inanely repetitive as to put our brains to sleep. My apologies, and take it up with Happy Fun Universe and my Muse, who are off dueting in the corner over there ::points::.
Happy - Pharrell Williams Because I'm happy...
The Man - Aloe Blacc We can tell everybody He's The Man!
Bet on it - High School Musical 2 h/t to thatkid aka K1, for this one. Bet on it!
Hot Stuff - Donna Summer Hot hot hot stuff!
Got my mind set on you - George Harrison What's it gonna take? A whole lotta time and money!
Biting Down - Lorde Does it really feel better biting down?
Around The World - Daft Punk three words repeated 140+ times (no, I didn't count!). That has to be a record of some sort...
Got repetitive earworm? Please share in the comments and enjoy our three Tops!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything
without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do
not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From peregrine kate:
This one is a classic. DarkHawk98 wrote it in connection with a diary about cancer treatment (and test reporting errors), but it is an excellent summary of foundational principles that every patient should keep in mind. A teaser:
"No matter what, be assertive about your health with all of your interactions with the medical community. If you are not assertive, some in the medical community will assume you are passively accepting of your condition and not willing to fight for your life."
From Yours Truly, brillig:
Oh hey, Clive Bundy is a fraud, as Jed Lewison's diary shows. So many excellent comments to choose from but Lost Left Coaster's plea resonated.
