This is a very brief post to let the Daily Kos community know about an important pipeline safety bulletin published yesterday by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
The PHMSA safety bulletin is entitled:
Integrity Management Lessons Learned from the Marshall, Michigan, Release
The bulletin addresses the July 25, 2010 massive release of heavy sour crude oil from tar sands from Enbridge Line 6B.
All in #NoXKL Camp will want to take a look at this safety bulletin which discusses the Enbridge deficient operation and stewardship of their own pipeline. Note that the entire Enbridge spill in Michigan was a completely preventable accident according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
The safety bulletin discusses how Enbridge went for 17 hours not understanding that their pipeline had breached from external corrosion and stress cracking caused by a failure of the plastic wrap around the pipeline.
The notice is interesting and informative reading and the findings of PHMSA should
be incorporated and addressed in environmental organization advocacy on all pipeline-related matters.
