Another short diary.
So I've heard people say you shouldn't legitimate the opposing position by debating it. Don't debate global warming. Don't debate evolution. It legitimizes them. More harm than good can come if you get into an un-winnable (this is not a word according to my spell check) debate. People will just get turned off and tune out.
Eff that. Eff the whole got dang dealio of it. That way's not working. And maybe I'm just too macho alpha male trogladyte that somehow lucked into my PhD by haphazardly throwing typewriters against the wall, but I like strong stands. I like demonstrative positions. Strong displays and assertions of confidence. And you know what?
So do most people.
When you act sure of yourself and don't back down you win people to your cause. Bill Maher once remarked on this about George Bush. Think as low as you want about him, when he said to hell with the Constitution, he meant it. When he wanted to lie about WMDs, he went balls to the wall. And he got people to go along with him, which blows my mind. But he didn't act polite or waver about what he wanted and what he was going to do. He said to hell with you all. Now watch me hit this golf ball.
What an arrogant ass. And sometimes you have to have a little bit of that.
