What a hell of a week this has been for LGBT people here in our country and around the world. An Arkansas judge declared their marriage ban unconstitutional. Michael Sam was drafted to the St. Louis Rams and gender-bending artist Conchita Wurst won Eurovision for Austria.
Although it's not a big deal in this country, for Europe this is an amazing moment. Eurovision is taken very seriously there and this was a big fat middle finger in the face of homophobic Eastern European governments who had entries of their own.
Chonchita had this to say about this amazing victory.
For me, my dream came true," Wurst, 25, whose birth name is Tom Neuwirth, told a news conference after the win. "But for our society, it just showed me that there are people out there who want to go into the future and go on, you know, not stepping back or thinking in the past."
This night belongs to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom. We are unity and we are unstoppable.
Suck on that Vladimir!
