Ask any green-blooded Conservative what the biggest problem we face as a nation -- and they will usually say: "The National Debt."
Ask any mean-blooded Conservative what the best way to address that biggest problem -- and they will usually say: "Cut Welfare, Entitlements, and Social Programs."
Ask any greed-blooded Conservative about the possibility of raising Taxes on the ultra-rich, like Corporations and Billionaires, in order to pay down our National Debt -- and they will usually say: "Hell No, that's not the American way!"
Usually followed by the tagline "Don't you want to be that rich someday? Do you want the government taking away all your hard earned-wealth!? ... Do ya?"
Never mind that your average Billionaire could not spend that much money ($1,000,000,000) in their lifetimes (80 Years) -- even if they spent $30,000 a day!
You know what they say, "It's the 1st Billion you'll remember, after THAT -- it just Mad Money."
Just ask Rush, about that.
So I'm here to suggest, propose, conjecture, raise the next populist 'wedge issue':
"It's time America got serious about our National Debt -- It's time we instituted a new Billionaire Tax!"
Here's how this fix-everything New Ultra-Rich Tax would work:
The first Billion you make will be taxed at "normal rates" (which studies show are often as low as 1 percent).
BUT, every Billion after THAT 1st Billion -- would be taxed at a flat tax rate between 90 and 99% -- depending on how much more of the National Debt is left, to be paid down.
Shoot, they'll never be able to spend that 1st Billion in their lifetimes -- so what the heck do they need ALL THOSE EXTRA Billions for anyways -- except for buying private islands, buying Elections, writing Legislation, inventing new Tax Loopholes?
A 90% Billionaire Tax, would still let them keep a $100 million of every "extra billion."
A 99% Billionaire Tax, would let them keep a $10 million of every "extra billion."
And IF some green-blooded Conservative claims that, "No one can expect them to survive on 'only' a Billion Dollars and some 'extra change'."
Then I would suggest that we have much bigger problems than our 'National Debt' ... namely that our planet isn't 'big enough' to support a limitless supply of Billionaires.
A some point, they will have to learn to give a little bit back to the planet and the society, that they have so exceedingly prospered from. Just ask Warren Buffet about that paying your fair share mindset.
And then ask them -- the uber-rich -- to pay up.
