Just returned from voting in this year’s primary election VA US House Seat 8 (Jim Moran is retiring) and my vote cast was vote 23 (according to the one and only vote scanner for our precinct. I cast my vote around 10am – which means this precinct had already been open for four hours.
Only 23 votes within a four hour window!
Yes, I know people rarely vote in primaries. I also, know that in off year elections roughly 40% of the eligible voters – actually vote. My problem is that with the number of people I heard complain about what a crappy job congress is doing (and has done) – I just figured maybe some people would actually get of their duff and VOTE.
I just wish there was a way to encourage people to vote (without nagging). I usually remind everyone, in general conversations that such and such election is fast approaching and they should make their decisions and get out and vote. Open to suggestions on how to encourage people to vote!
In my opinion, if less than 50% of the eligible voters actually vote – it really is not a fair election.
It sure is funny (as in very weird, not HA,HA) – How people go around complaining about their elected officials ….. BUT refuse to go out and VOTE! Does not ANYONE realize that their votes speak louder than any complaining?
