Iraq today is suffering an inevitable collapse. In Iraq, as we watch, on TV and the internet, the false-front, Iranian supported regime, of U.S. installed Shi'a strongmen, collapses under the onslaught of the Saudi Arabian, Wahhabi, Sunni client, ISIS. These radical and violent warriors for a new Islamic Caliphate now surge, in a violent, deadly and largely unopposed horde, down Iraq's river valleys toward Kuwait, the sea and the Iranian border. The Fertile Crescent, because of oil, remains one of the most important parts of the World. But Republican leaders broke Iraq and sewed disorder in the region. The eruption of long-term, wide-spread chaos became inevitable before President Obama and the Democrats took control of the government in 2009. Short of garrisoning Iraq with hundreds of thousands of foreign troops, no conceivable military or diplomatic mission after that time could have averted an outcome more or less as dangerous and chaotic as what now is happening in Iraq. Notice the extremes to which the proponents of the originally disastrous decisions in Iraq are willing to go, to blame this outcome on anybody but themselves or one another. They are squawking loudest because they know it is really themselves who justly bear all the blame.
The silver lining in all of this is that chaos in this region will send gas prices through the roof. This will force people to economize on their commuting. Since car and truck commuting using gas or diesel is just about the least green choice people have, this increase in costs will favor growth of the green transportation sector. The longer the chaos continues, the higher prices will go and the better for greener transportation alternatives. This is bound to have a positive impact on the national, or even the World carbon footprint.
OK, I made up that whole "silver lining" thing. Wow, that FOX news model is really seductive. Anyway, the unavoidable collapse of Iraq was always going to be the fault of Bush, Cheney and those other bastards, and all their enablers, because they were the ones who totally fucked up the place, for no even slightly good reason. Peace, baby.
