The South Dakota Republican Party had its state convention over the weekend. How insane is the South Dakota Republican Party, compared to the larger collection of state Republican parties?
Pretty damn insane:
The South Dakota Republican Party state convention passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Barack Obama Saturday.
The resolution says Obama has "violated his oath of office in numerous ways." It specifically cites the release of five Taliban combatants in a trade for captive U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl, Obama's statement that people could keep insurance companies, and recent EPA regulations on power plants.
It again needs to be said: The Republican Party is no longer the flag bearer of any actual political ideology or movement. It represents only a collection of paranoias and conspiracy theories bundled together by grifters, promoted by hucksters and obsessed over by rubes. It no longer has a functioning philosophy of government any more robust than declaring government itself illegitimate; it is a collection of dullards demanding rebellion for the sake of rebellion.
