I usually attend church twice a year, Christmas and Easter. But I attended today because the substitute minister was…..Mrs. side pocket. She did an absolutely stunning job. She basically did a reprise of her successful diary about Heifer International and its role in food justice. She presented a slide show using many of the photos from that diary. It was interesting to see someone you know so well in a totally different role than usual. I didn't wear my "Ceiling Cat is Watching You" T-shirt, although the regular minister would have loved it; she says God appears in many manifestations. All in all it was a pleasant morning, even the hymns, although my singing wouldn't exactly win any awards.
After one of the recent S F Kossack dinners in San Francisco my passenger Maggiejean and I had to drop another attendee off at a Bart Station which put us in a location slightly different than usual. I was sure I knew where we were so we proceeded without looking at my phone's GPS directions. We thus took a tour through various wonderful parts of the city, including the Haight, past great restaurants and other venues, parks, etc. We finally saw enough familiar streets that we got back on track and returned over the Gollden Gate Bridge. It reminded me of a cross country trip Mrs. sp and I took, during which we were listening so raptly to a novel via Books on Tape that we missed a bunch of turns and ended up somehow in Lincoln, Nebraska. We spent the night and part of a day there and enjoyed it. So if you have ever been directionally challenged and yet had a positive outcome, the Kitchen Table would be a fun place to recall the adventure (or mis-adventure) and share it with others. Those who never ever make a wrong turn will enjoy it also, though they might be shaking their heads in disbelief.
Now I know that cactusgal is weary of my tomatoes but I just can't help it. They are coming on strong and the taste is getting richer with every day's harvest. This group is from one day (minus the one I used for a BLT sandwich for lunch). Since I take statins I can have a BLT every day, and I do as often as possible. We eat them fresh, share with family, dehydrate them, and make chili and spaghetti sauce.
I especially enjoy sharing some with Kossack FogCityJohn because he is a real tomato fan, as he wrote about here. That link has recipes, also. That trip to S F was fun and I will do it again this year.
Here's hoping someone here has a "getting lost" story beyond anything most of us can imagine. Or maybe a "cease and desist" order regarding tomatoes, who knows?

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
