In case you haven't heard, there is a major convention happening in our backyard later this month: Netroots Nation 2014.
I'm going; are you?
That's my first question, but not my last. (Please answer any or all in the comments.)
The registration rate for "locals"-- that is, Michigan residents -- is $195 plus a small fee. Here's the link for that special rate. If that's still too steep, it is possible to work volunteer shifts in exchange for partial or full waivers of the registration cost. For more information about that option, please send an email to: volunteers@netrootsnation.org
Besides the roll call, I have a few questions to ask those who do plan to attend.
1. Do we want to have a meet-up BEFORE the event, say Sunday the 13th for lunch, to give us all a chance to say hello before the grand confabulation starts?
That's the only weekend day I can attend myself, given family obligations between now and then. What do you think? If yes, then where?
2. Would you be interested in sporting a "Motor City Kossacks" button (with our logo as above)? Would you be interested in paying a couple of bucks for said button? We can get it done if I (or someone else) follows up soon. The per-button cost will go down with the number made, of course.
3. What would you like to make sure we cover at our Michigan Caucus during the event? Ours is scheduled for Thursday at 2:00, for only 45 minutes. It'll be more effective if we have a chance to think about what we want to accomplish ahead of time.
4. What do you think about having a little Motor City Kossacks get-together during NN14? Actually, that's a bit misleading. What I would have in mind would be a sort of "host party" from us to our guests. I know, the logistics are challenging, to say the least! But let me know if you think it's a good idea, and I'll see what I can do. My husband and I are already willing to have our room at the Marriott be a hang-out place, so maybe that's enough.
5. Speaking of getting together, please make sure that you are on the list for a spot at a Motor City Kossacks' table at the Plenary Sessions if you are interested. Navajo has been keeping track and posting updated lists in the Connect! Unite! Act! diaries daily. No need to stay there for everything, but it is good to have a place to hang out. Let me know if you're not on the list and would like to be. This is the current list:
Motor City Kossacks:
1. peregrine kate
2. provokingmeaning
3. 4Freedom
4. Brainwrap
5. Mrs. Brainwrap
6. Eclectablog aka Chris Savage
7. 2thanks
8. Sydneyluv
9. DoReMI
10. Mideedah
11. GwenM
12. dkmich
13. NormAl1792
14. tgypsy
15. gregsullmich
16. SharonRB
17. SharonRB's friend
18. Muskegon Critic
6. Is anyone around here interested in a
birding expedition on Sunday? We have only limited time, working around the schedule of our own tgypsy. But recommendations for places to check out, and offers of companionship, are most welcome. You don't have to be a Motor City Kossack to take part.
7. I think I have probably recruited all the local folks available to be part of the Host Committee, doing tasks at the event like Hospitality Lounge set-up/take-down, and helping with Newbie Welcome and Orientation. But if I've missed you and you're interested, please drop me a Kosmail. There's still time, and plenty of opportunities await.
I am about to post a separate diary related to NN14 Newbie Welcome activities, so please watch for that and weigh in there, too.
8. If you are interested in carpooling to the event, and would be willing to meet 2thanks at his house in NW Detroit, please drop him a Kosmail.
Thanks! Not long now--only 15 days till the kick-off activities!
