Good luck trying to school this heartless, corrupt idiot
Florida is in big trouble due to climate change. No other state is as vulnerable to rising seas and storm surge and we're not talking about the far distant future we're talking about the next few decades. It's that bad.
Florida is drowning and the powers that run the state are turning their heads.
There is some action to mitigate and adapt being implemented at the local level, especially in southeast Florida, the area most at risk for rising seas, but at the state level with the corrupt wingnut Governor Rick Scott in charge there has been blatant obstruction and corrupt support for his corporate buddies who want to maintain the status quo because it fills their pockets.
Those who understand the urgency of the situation are getting desperate especially those whose work it is to educate regarding the eminent threats to our state. So it is that ten Florida university scientists are requesting an audience with Gov. Scott to school him on the dangers and available remedies.
TALLAHASSEE — In an effort to push Gov. Rick Scott into the debate on climate change, 10 prominent scientists from the state’s top universities Tuesday asked for an opportunity to explain to him the impact human-induced global warming will have on Florida.
“We note you have been asked several times about how, as Governor, you will handle the issue of climate change,” the professors wrote in a two-page letter to Scott. “You responded that you are ‘not a scientist.’ We are scientists and we would like the opportunity to explain what is at stake for our state.”
The Biscayne Aquifer provides almost all of the freshwater for the Keys, Miami, and the lower East Coast of Florida. Although a small part of the aquifer is beneath salty mangrove area, most of it is recharged by the freshwater Everglades. As sea level rises, saltwater will invade part of the Everglades, threatening both that ecosystem and the aquifer that lies beneath it. Source: EPA (2002)

The Guardian doesn't overstate when he describes the threats to Florida as biblical:
Miami and its surroundings are facing a calamity worthy of the Old Testament. It is an astonishing story. Despite its vast wealth, the city might soon be consumed by the waves, for even if all emissions of carbon dioxide were halted tomorrow – a very unlikely event given their consistent rise over the decades – there is probably enough of the gas in the atmosphere to continue to warm our planet, heat and expand our seas, and melt polar ice. In short, there seems there is nothing that can stop the waters washing over Miami completely.
It a devastating scenario. But what really surprises visitors and observers is the city's response, or to be more accurate, its almost total lack of reaction. The local population is steadily increasing; land prices continue to surge; and building is progressing at a generous pace. [...]
Florida needs state leadership on climate change but its senior political leadership is composed mainly of climate change deniers. Gov. Rick Scott, Senator Marco Rubio and former Gov. Jeb Bush have all expressed their reluctance to accept the science on climate change. Idiot Senator Rubio recently expressed his views: "I do not believe that human activity is causing these dramatic changes to our climate the way these scientists are portraying it. I do not believe that the laws that they propose we pass will do anything about it, except it will destroy our economy,"
