I understand the financial logic of maximizing session attendance at a conference, but it would be nice to have more timely archives of NN14 keynote speeches - it would even build the kind of RW spin we've come to enjoy mocking - otherwise regardless of the potential for a less unified Democratic party, there is a 2014 election coming and any 'energizing" of the party base from its "democratic*" wing would be welcome, but then again I write this because I wasn't able to liveblog Warren's speech this morning, and in the interest of full disclosure I did contribute to her Senate campaign. And no, Twitter doesn't do it for me especially if it reveals that I can make mistakes.
Warren's supporters used her speech to progressive activists Friday as their launching pad, handing out hats, signs and stickers to attendees. When Warren appeared on stage, large banners urging her to run were unfurled, and members of the crowd chanted for her to run a few times during her speech.
Warren, however, does not support this effort, as her spokeswoman told The Huffington Post this week. And she didn't acknowledge the calls to run for president Friday either, simply urging people to sit down whenever they jumped up and started applauding.
(*)"the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party."...
It is, instead, a phrase that signifies the importance of Democratic values to the Democratic grassroots. It was never about not accepting progress because one thought it wasn't enough progress. It is, rather, about making progress - even if we don't reach the promise land immediately. People from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party do not cower in fear of the Republican reactionaries. We push through incredible odds and we get something done. We believe in our ideas deeply enough to make a case for them even to conservatives. We believe in justice, fairness, fighting for our cause and yes, we believe in pragmatism to get things done. It is not about adhering to ideological rigidity. On the contrary it is about having the courage to stand up and get things done.
