Those who have known Rick Perry know that he's not very keen on DC. This is, after all the governor who flirted with secession over the evil Obamacare a few years ago (and then promptly backpedled on the issue years later). This, of course, led to much hilarity when he tried to run for President of the government he hates so much. (A personal note: When Perry announced for the Presidency back in summer of 2011, I was in L.A. for my cousin's wedding and remember having a very good laugh with my relatives over the surreal nature of Governor Goodhair wanting to be President of a country he wanted to leave.)
But Rick Perry is very much like many DC-hating Republicans. He has no problem taking that sweet, sweet government money. But this really takes the cake:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) on Monday officially announced that he will deploy about 1,000 members of the National Guard to the border, and said that he expects the federal government to reimburse the state.
I'm sorry, what? Explain further, Rick. Or rather, his presumptive successor, Greg Abbott:
"Texans are willing to put boots on the ground, but we expect Washington to foot the bill," he said.
Excuse me, you want to waste money on this ridiculous stunt of yours, waste
your money, assholes. Don't go crying to the entity you hate so much for them to bail you out.
The hypocrisy of these guys is just staggering, isn't it? They attack the federal government at every opportunity and whine about wasted tax dollars, yet they have absolutely no shame at pleading for money at the drop of a hat.
Sorry, guys. You want this stunt, you get the bill.
