Tonight voters in Kansas, Michigan, and Washington hold their primaries (Missouri is up too, but there are no notable statewide or Federal races to watch). Our
guide to the key races can be found here. Note that in Washington, the top-two vote-getters will advance to November regardless of party. We'll be bringing you tonight's results as they come in, and you can keep track of all the winners just below:
Results & Poll Closing Times (all times Eastern):
Kansas (8 PM for Central timezone, 9 PM for Mountain timezone) |
Michigan (8 PM for Eastern timezone, 9 PM for Central timezone) |
Missouri (8 PM) |
Washington (11 PM)
7:21 PM PT (David Nir): MO-07 (R): Maybe I was wrong about there being nothing much going on in Missouri. Johnny Longtorso flags a notable result: Ultra-conservative Rep. Billy Long is beating his absolutely penniless challenger, Marshall Works, by a weak 59-41 margin with 59% reporting. Works raised $1,200! Twelve hundred!
7:23 PM PT (David Nir): MI-14 (D): Rudy Hobbs has just moved out to a 200-some vote lead on Brenda Lawrence. Both are at 37 percent apiece with 63% now reporting.
7:28 PM PT (David Nir): MI-08 (D): Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing has jumped into a narrow 40-39 lead on Susan Grettenberg as votes in his home county have come in (78% now reporting overall). Whoever wins will be a heavy underdog to Republican Mike Bishop, the winner of the GOP primary, in November.
7:30 PM PT (David Nir): KS-04, -01 (R): The AP has called the 4th for Rep. Mike Pompeo, who turns back ex-Rep. Todd Tiahrt 62-38. Things are still tight in the 1st, where Rep. Tim Huelskamp is now beating his Some Dude challenger, Alan LaPolice, just 52-48 with 34% counted.
7:34 PM PT (David Nir): MI-03 (R): The AP hasn't called it yet, but Brian Ellis has conceded to Rep. Justin Amash. Amash is up 55-45 with 44% reporting. A poll just a week ago from Strategic National had put Amash on top by 20 points.
7:47 PM PT (David Nir): Three primaries remain unresolved in Michigan:
In MI-04 (R), John Moolenaar's been in front all night, and he currently leads Paul Mitchell 51-38.
In MI-08 (D), Eric Schertzing and Susan Grettenberger keep swapping leads, but Schertzing is now up 40-38 with 85% reporting and the remaining votes are almost all in his base of Ingham County.
Finally, in MI-14 (D), Rudy Hobbs and Brenda Lawrence have also swapped leads, but Hobbs holds a tiny 100-vote lead with 76% reporting. Both are still at 37 percent a piece.
7:52 PM PT (David Nir): MI-03 (R): The AP finally gives the checkmark to Justin Amash, one of quite a few Republican congressmen to survive with a primary with a vote haul in the 50s this year.
8:01 PM PT (David Nir): MI-11 (D): Almost forgot about this one. Bobby McKenzie now has just a 170-vote lead on Anil Kumar. Both men are at 33 percent with 94% reporting. We may not know the winner here tonight.
8:03 PM PT (David Nir): KS-Sen (R): Pat Roberts' lead has shrunk down to 48-41 on Milton Wolf, with 71% reporting. If conservatives had recruited a slightly better challenger (someone who didn't post patients' X-rays on Facebook and make offensive comments about them), and if the tea party establishment had spent real money here, Roberts could easily have wound up the next Dick Lugar.
8:04 PM PT (David Nir): KS-Sen (R): And like that, the AP calls it for Roberts. He'll likely face Democrat Chad Taylor, who currently has a 53-47 lead in his primary, but self-funding independent Greg Orman could make an impact here.
8:08 PM PT (David Nir): The liveblog continues here.
