Tonight voters in Kansas, Michigan, and Washington hold their primaries (Missouri is up too, but there are no notable statewide or Federal races to watch). Our
guide to the key races can be found here. Note that in Washington, the top-two vote-getters will advance to November regardless of party. We'll be bringing you tonight's results as they come in, and you can keep track of all the winners just below:
Results & Poll Closing Times (all times Eastern):
Kansas (8 PM for Central timezone, 9 PM for Mountain timezone) |
Michigan (8 PM for Eastern timezone, 9 PM for Central timezone) |
Missouri (8 PM) |
Washington (11 PM)
8:10 PM PT (David Nir): MO-07 (R): The AP has called the race for Rep. Billy Long, who's now at 62-38. Still, that's pathetic. Are none of these Republican congressman interested in heeding the lesson that you have to pay attention to your district?
8:12 PM PT (David Nir): Washington, of course, is also holding a primary tonight, and polls just closed there. But since the state conducts all voting by mail, counting is usually quite slow.
8:16 PM PT (David Jarman): WA-04: The first trickle of votes are in, in the 4th: about a thousand of them, but seemingly all from one precinct. Clint Didier, tea-flavored ex-NFL player, is out to an early lead.
8:25 PM PT (David Jarman): WA-04: The Washington SoS is somewhat further along than the AP. They have over 40,000 votes tallied. It's Clint Didier at 37, Dan Newhouse at 22, Estakio Beltran (one of only 2 Dems) at 11, George Cicotte at 10, Tony Sandoval (the other Dem) at 7, and Janea Holmquist Newbry at 6.
8:27 PM PT (David Jarman): MI-11 (D): The AP has called the Dem primary in the 11th for Bobby McKenzie with 100% reporting. He narrowly beats Anil Kumar, 34-33, with Nancy Skinner at 26. He'll face Republican Dave Trott, probably facing long odds in this GOP-leaning district.
8:29 PM PT (David Jarman): MI-04 (R): And we've finally gotten a call from the AP in the GOP primary in the 4th, which seemed a foregone conclusion long ago. The difficult-to-spell John Moolenaar beats Paul Mitchell (whose accordion skills didn't save him) 51-38. He should have an easy time in November in this red district.
8:33 PM PT (David Jarman): WA-01: Nobody's been paying much attention to the 1st, where Suzan Del Bene is a potentially vulnerable freshman. She's looking a lot less vulnerable now, too: she's at 52 percent, with all GOPers combined at 45, and more importantly, with establishment choice (and Microsoft rich guy) Pedro Celis trailing some dude Robert Sutherland, 16-15, for second place.
8:34 PM PT (David Jarman): WA-01: Heh, in fact, the AP already called the first slot for Del Bene. We'll have to see if Celis can advance, though.
8:37 PM PT (David Jarman): KS-01 (R): Rep. Tim Huelskamp is ever-so-slowly gaining traction in the GOP primary in the 1st, a race on few people's radars. He leads Alan LaPolice 53-47 now with 76% reporting. Assuming he wins tonight, though, better-funded establishment rivals might smell blood for 2016.
8:43 PM PT (David Jarman): WA-St. Sen.: I wouldn't have expected the race involving Tim Sheldon (one of the two turncoat Dems) to be interesting, but he's getting squeezed on both sides and might not survive the night. SD-35 has actual Dem Irene Bowling at 35, Sheldon at 34, and GOPer Travis Couture at 32. Dem Cyrus Habib is easily on track to replace the other turncoat Dem, the retiring Rodney Tom; Habib leads GOPer Michelle Darnell 63-37 in SD-48.
8:48 PM PT (David Jarman): MI-08, MI-14 (D): A quick check on the two outstanding races in Michigan: Eric Schertzing, the DCCC-preferred choice, leads Susan Grettenberger 42-38 with 93% reporting, and only his home base, Ingham County, still out. So the 8th looks pretty close to wrapped up. In the 14th, though, it's 36-36 for Rudy Hobbs and Brenda Lawrence; Lawrence is up by 109 votes with 99% reporting (ex-Rep. Hansen Clarke is 3rd at 27). This one may face a recount.
8:50 PM PT (David Jarman): KS-01 (R), KS-Sen (D): Everything's wrapped up in Kansas, though. The AP just called the GOP primary in the 1st for Rep. Tim Huelskamp, who beats Alan LaPolice by a lame 54-46 with 80% reporting. And the Dem Senate primary goes to Chad Taylor, who beats Patrick Wiesner 53-47 with 86% reporting; Taylor will face off against a bloodied Pat Roberts in the general, though he's still a huge underdog.
8:51 PM PT (David Nir): The liveblog continues here.
