This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care. This rescue is very small and run by a husband and wife team. I wrote this poem for the Climate Change blogathon and I think it applies here.
I am here, alive and all around you
I have no voice
In your trees, your air, your fields, your oceans, your world
I have no voice
I am a mother, a father, a protector, a soul
I have no voice
I can walk, crawl, sing, fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

Meet Frazier!
He is looking for a rescue that will help him find the perfect furever home that he deserves!
Frazier is a really special boy that was lucky enough to be picked up off the streets of West Louisville, Ky by a couple of sweet ladies that work at near-by Brown-Forman. At only 2 years old (the white fur on his muzzle is deceptive), life has not been kind to him. He is recovering from a skin condition that has been untreated for a long time. His toenails were so long that they had grown over each other, making it painful for him to walk. He is a little timid around new people and places, but warms up quickly. He enjoys squeaky toys, treats, butt rubs, ear scratches and chasing tennis balls (still working on that whole bring it back thing though). He will need some practice learning to walk on a leash, but knows a leash means something good is going to happen.
Frazier is UTD on vaccinations, neutered and HW-. He has been boarding at a vets' office for the last couple weeks while being treated for his skin condition and is about ready to be released (the vet staff love him!). He will need a patient foster/adopter that is willing to help him learn that people are good and teach him inside manners. We think he will be easy to housebreak - he doesn't seem to want to make a mess in his kennel. He has gained a little weight at the vet but is still very emaciated! He is up to 77lbs, but could use at least another 15lbs---we think there may be a little Great Dane in his family tree! He was scared of the cat at the vet's office and seems to ignore the other dogs around him. Since he is a big guy and he likes to use his mouth to show affection (gently with lots of slobber), I wouldn't recommend a family with smaller children.
We really think he is going to be a gorgeous, wonderful boy for someone! Please let me know if you can help!!
Here's a success story from earlier this year. We got Navy (now know as Ivan) out of a KY shelter last year with the help of Middle Tennessee Golden Retriever Rescue (MTGRR) who found a home for him - and what a home it is! He has a canine companion, was given a birthday party, goes to work with his owner, goes to the beach and had his own stocking this past Christmas. It's heart-warming but rare that we get feedback about the dogs we rescue. The whole story and a lot more photos are here.
1:20 PM PT: Thanks for the rec list guys. Let's help some dogs! :)
