Michelle Nunn (D. GA) is starting get really aggressive towards David Perdue (R. GA) and I'm loving it:
http://clatl.com/...
In response to Perdue's recent remarks dismissing her "real world" experience, she spoke about her nonprofit efforts to improve public schools, deliver meals to senior citizens, and rebuild communities struck by natural disasters. "This is the real world that I have found, and I believe that there is nobility in helping others,” she said.
After touching on her background, Nunn delivered her most biting criticisms of Perdue to date. She fired shots at his corporate track record, unfair treatment of female employees, and partisan ways, saying that:
Let me tell you a little bit about David Perdue’s real world. Mr. Perdue is a man who's managed to make a lot of money in business. And we applaud success. But for some reason, those who worked with him at the various stops along his career didn’t come out nearly as well.
In fact, in our neighboring state of North Carolina, my opponent managed to make millions of dollars for less than a year’s worth of work, but almost 8,000 people lost their jobs when his company went bankrupt. And in multiple other companies, David Perdue led efforts to ship thousands of jobs overseas, making a fortune while American families suffered.
Under his watch, one of his companies was investigated by the federal government for discriminating against women. His firm was forced to pay more than 2,000 female employees more than $20 million for not paying them equally and for not treating them equally.
Too often, Mr. Perdue seemed to prosper when those who worked with him suffered. He’s a man who, time after time, put his own profit ahead of his people. Sadly, David Perdue’s real world does not include us.
While David Perdue ran as an outside, his campaign tactics and his rhetoric are a lot like what people are already tired of. He refused to take a pledge to keep secret and undisclosed money out of Georgia. He complained of Washington as usual during the campaign, but within minutes of winning the election, he declared that this race would be about prosecuting this administration. Prosecuting? Gosh, that sounds an awful lot like Washington as usual. People putting partisanship over problem solving. We don't need people pointing fingers in Washington. We need leaders who can work together and create solutions. - Creative Loafing Atlanta, 8/11/14
Here's another issue both candidates greatly disagree on:
http://onlineathens.com/...
When it comes to taxing profits U.S. corporations earn overseas, Michelle Nunn and David Perdue disagree.
For voters concerned about jobs, the candidates offer a clear choice because of their different approaches to this one tax issue. The only challenge is figuring out which approach is best.
Nunn, the Democratic Senate nominee, says profits earned abroad should be taxed and companies avoiding it are taking advantage of a loophole that needs to be closed.
Perdue, her Republican opponent, believes companies shouldn’t have to face a tax in the first place because no other country taxes overseas profits. He argues removing the tax would give those companies the incentive to use an estimated $2 trillion in ready cash sitting idle in foreign banks as a way to invest in American job creation. - Online Athens, 8/6/14
Nunn knows she has to get tough in order to win this tough race:
http://www.examiner.com/...
According to a new survey conducted by the Hicks Evaluation Group (HEG) and the Truman National Security Project last weekend, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal (R) is tied with state Sen. Jason Carter (D)in the gubernatorial race, and Republican David Perdue is ahead of Michelle Nunn (D) in the election for the U.S. Senate. The poll included 788 likely general election voters and took place August 8-10, 2014.
The governor’s race seems to be a tossup with Carter at 45.4 percent of support and Deal at 45.3. The Senate race, however, is definitely tipping towards the Republicans with Perdue leading 47.6 to Nunn’s 41.5 percent. The margin of error is +/- 3.48 percent.
The results of the poll must be very troubling to Governor Deal, who should at this point have at least a slight lead as an incumbent. Clearly, the alleged ethics violations are slowly eating away at Deal’s campaign. The Governor promised more aggressive campaigning and better results after the primaries, and while he’s been much more visible ever since, this poll certainly doesn’t show much improvement in his popularity. - Examiner, 8/11/14
Not sure what the polling firm's track record is but lets assume it's a tight one where every vote counts. And the GOP is nervous about this race:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
The National Republican Senatorial Campaign is hitting the TV airwaves in the Georgia Senate race beginning next week, marking its first flight up on the air in the 2014 election.
According to Democrats and Republicans tracking the ad war, the NRSC has reserved $2.6 million worth of air time in the pricey Atlanta media market from Aug. 12 until Sept. 15.
Georgia is a key state for Republicans to hold as they battle for the Senate majority. Businessman David Perdue, who has reached into his own pockets to help fund his campaign, won the GOP nomination in a runoff on July 22. He faces Democrat Michelle Nunn, a philanthropist and the daughter of former senator Sam Nunn (D). Early polls show a competitive race. - Washington Post, 8/5/14
And Nunn's getting some star power behind her campaign:

Democrat Michelle Nunn’s Senate campaign is getting a boost from Carole King.
The Nunn camp tells us that the Grammy award winning singer and songwriter is in town to do some charity work with the candidate and later host a fundraiser on her behalf. It’s the latest stop on King’s Democratic circuit – earlier she stumped for Sen. Kay Hagan’s re-election campaign in North Carolina. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 8/8/14
And Nunn's father has been out on the campaign trail with her, working to win over another key constituency:
http://www.albanyherald.com/...
A Senate candidate and her father, who once held that Senate seat, was in Albany earlier this week as part of a statewide tour to join volunteers and veterans at a food bank warehouse as a means to bring to the forefront community service as well as the impact of military bases in Georgia.
Michelle Nunn, the Democratic nominee, was joined by her father, former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn, at the Second Harvest of South Georgia food bank warehouse in East Albany during her “What Washington Can Learn From Georgia: Strong Bases, Strong Communities” statewide tour. During the stop in Albany, a group of volunteers, who also included U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, were helping to pack boxes for the food bank’s mobile food pantry, along with the Nunns.
While in the area, the Michelle Nunn said that meetings with stakeholders took place during the visit for discussions regarding Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany and its impact. The overall purpose of her tours, the Nunn campaign has said, is to highlight collaboration and getting things done.
“We have had great conversations with sectors of leaders to ensure there is a strong community embracement of military bases,” she said, adding viters should “send someone to Washington that will stand up for these folks.”
The campaign tour has included visits to Columbus, Warner Robins and Valdosta, all of which are homes to military installations. Michelle Nunn, who indicated she would have interest in serving on the Armed Services Committee if elected, said during her stop in Albany that she has taken from these stops a re-enforcement of what she already knows regarding the significance of the military’s presence in Georgia, both in terms of economic and community impact. - Albany Herald, 8/7/14
