The US Supreme Court, granted an emergency request on Wednesday to halt gay marriage in Virginia.
The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Virginia's gay marriage ban violated the Constitution's Equal Protection Clause and is being appealed to the Supreme Court.
The irony:
Loving v. Virginia (No. 395) The Supreme Court ruled that Virginia's statutory scheme to prevent marriages between persons solely on the basis of racial classifications held to violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment.
Had the Supreme Court ruled that Virginia could deny interracial marriage, then Justice Thomas would not have a Caucasian wife ... oh the irony. It's even more ironic when you realize Justice Thomas' wife's name is Virginia -- when will the irony in this stop?
The Court is expected to take up the issue as early as next year ... but until then, equal rights minded folks will be wondering: How will Justice Thomas rule on this? How does Thomas' Tea Party wife, Virginia, want him to rule?
