I've been wondering where the GOTV effforts were for the Democratic Party in the Antelope Valley. I was resigned to having to organize something myself, once the regional Kossack group was set up, and I was not looking forward to it.
One of the reasons I wasn't looking forward to it is that I'm not a member of the Democratic Party. Way back when I was young and stupid, I didn't decide on a party because I couldn't tell the difference. Once George W. Bush and his illegal wars and unconstitutional torture programs demonstrated the difference, I fully supported the Democratic Pary and Democratic candidates, down to walking precincts in 2008.
But I never took that last step.
Until today.
This afternoon, we got a knock on the door from the California Vote Project 2014. Apparently they're coming down from Sacramento to canvass the Antelope Valley, contact Democratic voters to get them motivated to vote in the midterms and address any issues they may have getting to the polls, and contact Decline to State voters to get them to register Democratic.
Don, the gentleman who rang our doorbell from this organization, was happy to talk to someone who didn't curse at him or sic their dogs on him. We were happy to meet someone doing boots-on-the-ground organization here in the Antelope Valley for the Democratic Party, registering voters and getting them to the polls for local contests and addressing local issues.
One of the things that would help would be to get more Decline to States registered as Democrats, so my wife and I took the step we haven't done since I signed on at Daily Kos and officially registered as Democratic Party voters.
Maybe we can get some good done here.
