Carrie Woerner is increasingly in a strong position to become the first Democratic Assemblyperson to represent the Upper Hudson Valley region of Upstate New York in nearly 150 years. The 113th Assembly District, which stretches from the Vermont border across the rural farming communities of Washington County to the City of Saratoga Springs, was once an iron-clad Republican stronghold, but has increasingly been moderating in recent years, voting narrowly for President Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, mainly due to a continued influx of urban refugees from New York City and Downstate New York migrating into the region.
Woerner appears to be a very good fit with the changing political texture of the region, positioning herself as a centrist, business-oriented Democrat, highlighting her work in the technology industry, where she currently serves as Vice President of MeetMax Conference Software for the Wall Street Transcript.
From Carrie Woerner's campaign website:
"Carrie Woerner is a successful businesswoman with nearly 30 years in the high-tech industry. Her career includes stints with IBM and Perot Systems Corp. As the current Vice President of MeetMax Conference Software for The Wall Street Transcript, she has grown her division into a profitable business."
"At the age of 40, Carrie took a hiatus from the corporate world and accepted a position as Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. During her five-year tenure, she developed funding for the Beekman Street Arts District rehabilitation, oversaw historic cemetery restoration, and successfully advocated for legislation protecting Saratoga Race Course historic buildings. Her extensive book on Saratoga walking tours is still used to fundraise for the Foundation."
"Carrie Woerner ran for public office in 2008 against a 5-term incumbent, winning a seat on the Village of Round Lake Board of Trustees with her platform of responsible development, open space protection, and open government. She was re-elected in 2014 for her fourth term."
This week, Carrie Woerner's campaign will be opening two campaign field offices in Fort Edward and Saratoga Springs.
From the Glens Falls Post Star, August 27, 2014:
"Democratic state Assembly candidate Carrie Woerner said she will open campaign offices in Fort Edward and Saratoga Springs next week."
"“The campaign is going really, really well. We did 210 houses this weekend. We had a really great time at the (Washington) County fair,” she said in an interview Tuesday, when she campaigned in Glens Falls with Democratic and Working Families Party congressional candidate Aaron Woolf."
"Woerner said jobs and Common Core education standards are the two issues residents have mentioned the most during the campaign."
