As I get older, ideas come and go, but mostly go. So, I thought I would just take a moment to pass along something, I kind of think would have an impact on a young person. This probably isn't possible in this day and age, but wow, this would have had a lasting impact on me. I don't even know if health education, sex education is taught in school anymore. I remember some pretty lame classes, and one or two films that most slept through.
So, here's my idea.
What if your child was in high school, and for one week, each homeroom, or what ever it's called now took a turn, and had each student wear a stick on herpes sore on their upper lip for the day? Just one day. At the end of this week, each student would get to walk around with their very own herpes sore on his or her lip. It might actually create the need to have each person really think about herpes, what it is, how you get it, and how long it lasts.
I don't think the word "herpes" existed when I was in high school.
If I were a principal I would want my students to really understand what the words "FOR LIFE" mean, when it comes to viruses, and how easy it is to get one of these "sores for life"
The other issue I would hammer into the brains of young students, would be credit card debt, and what an APR is. These kids are going to get something in the mail one day, and it's going to be a "free" credit card, with a 26% APR, and it's sad that most people don't understand the basics here.
I know, not really a diary. Just something I would do if I were king.
