English is a weird language and has acquired (some would say “ripped off”) new words from many different sources. English is filled with acronyms: words which are created by using the first letters of the words in a phrase. Some of the common acronyms in English include scuba, laser, AIDS, radar, FAQ, and many others.
An interesting twist on the concept of the acronym is the backronym. The backroynym begins with a word—often the name of a popular brand or product—and then a phrase is constructed for it. Some examples:
Jeep: Just Empty Every Pocket
Dodge: Drips Oil, Drops Grease Everywhere
Ford: Fix Or Repair Daily
All of these backronyms deals with cars, and since this is a website that deals with politics, perhaps we should create some political backronyms.
Welcome to Street Prophets Saturday. This is an open thread. Feel free to create your own political backronyms, or any other kind of backronyms, simply talk about what’s happening in your life.
