Max Fischer at the Washington Post has posted the most intelligent thing I've read about Ukraine in many a day.
He describes the ethnic divide that makes Ukraine's political problems so intractable.
It is important to understand that this is not just protests in Kiev, the opposition is taking over government buildings in towns and regional centers all over Western Ukraine. This was happening long before the recent laws that have been so widely criticized by Westerners.
It is difficult to see this as anything but insurrection. It is hard to understand why so many people are so against the legitimate government taking action to restore order.
