So I've been a long time lurker, semi frequent commentator, and one time diarist (that is I have written exactly one diary). But something has changed with me these last 5 years. Of course I'm beaming with pride at having been an active part of the campaign to elect and re-elect our POTUS. But my involvement in the political process has made me realize just how fucked up it is for people of color, and how disenfranchised a great many of us are here in the great state of Florida. So I have decided to do everything in my power to make our current governor a single term one. Since his election my poor state has been subjected to some of the most horrendous policies imaginable. This is unacceptable. And I'm beginning the process of learning to speak out to effect change in my state. To that end a Democratic rep, Kathy Castor (FL-14), has elected to continue to gut vital services to the already suffering constituents in her district (Tampa-St. Pete) by voting for this horrendous farm bill along with 88 other Dem Reps. Admittedly the quick cursory glance I did of her voting record shows for the most part she's mostly rank and file, further I am not even in her district (I live in South Florida). But I believe that she is mistaken on this farm bill concession, and I'm determined to speak out on it. I solicit the help of all my fellow Florida Kossacks to help me with the next steps in becoming more active here in south Florida and getting out the progressive message. I also welcome all constructive criticism of this short (2nd) diary.
Thanks
P.S. - I love this place. I've learned so much from the wonderful, intelligent people here.
