Sen. Rand Paul
continues to have odd hobbies.
[Rand Paul] keeps connecting the Monica Lewinsky scandal back to Democrats' "war on women" narrative against the GOP. His latest accusation: Clinton was a "serial philanderer."
“For all these people who stand up for Bill Clinton, say ‘He’s the greatest thing since sliced bread,’ he was a serial philanderer but he also is someone who took advantage of women in the workplace,” Paul said Wednesday on "CBS This Morning."
If your argument is that there is no Republican war on women because Monica Lewinsky, you are officially grasping at straws. Paul seems to be making a theme of it, possibly because grasping at straws is the symbol painted on the Paul family coat of arms.
Nonetheless, given the new Republican drive to deny that there is a "war on women", it's clear that the phrase has stung the party deeply, or at least stung the polling deeply. Not deeply enough to change course or to perhaps not bring up yet another bill to limit abortion or allow American hobby supply stores to enforce employee fertility or whine about how there is no pay gap between American men and women because shut up, that's why, but even the Rand Pauls of the party know there's a problem.
Don't hold your breath for any solution more encompassing than "We are not doing that thing, it is all the mean Democrats and possibly Bill Clinton," though. That's about all the brain trust has been able to muster for years now, whether it's on immigration or civil rights or reproductive rights or anything else.
