Today. October 1, 2014. our 39th President Jimmy Carter turned 90 years old. I had a chance to see carter during the Plains Peanut Festival last weekend. He looks just amazing for 90. Rosalynn too.
No US President since LBJ or FDR accomplished as much as Carter. He priotected more wilderness areas than any President since T. Roosevelt. He passed the Panama Canal Treaties. Camp David. A progressive energy policy. and his leadership on civil rights and human rights.
Yes, Jimmy Carter lost in 1980. Ronald Reagan was a better politician who promised the moon while delivering record deficits.
Jimmy Carter responded by becoming a world statesman. He, through the Carter Center, has all but eliminated River Blindness and Guina Worm disease in Africa. He continues to monitor elections all over the world. He is not afraid to defy conventional wisdom on Middle East policy. He has brokered diplomatic successes and peaceful resolution of conflict in Cuba, North Korea, Haiti and in just about every other trouble spot in the world. The list of his accomplishments exceeds my ability to recite them.
Now his Grandson, Jason Carter, is running a heck of a race to replace Gov. Nathan Deal in Georgia. This guy may be a better politician than his Grandpa.
But Carter has trancended politics. He is a world statesman. No one has done more to advance a progressive agenda worldwide.
