He doesn't 'see' the science, and you can't make him.
It's uncanny how little climate-change deniers change their arguments even as the evidence of man-made climate change continues to pile up. Or maybe it's not uncanny, and it just relies on the speaker being as dumb as a post and
presuming everyone else is just as dimwitted as he is.
During a recent visit to a Skandia dairy farm, [Michigan Rep. Dan Benishek] (R-Crystal Falls) said he does not believe the many computer models and other climate change evidence. [...]
“The climate may be changing, but I don’t think man is contributing to it,” Benishek said. [...]
“Well, I think it’s just the natural course of things,” Benishek said. “There is no scientific evidence that shows any of that.”
And by
no scientific evidence, hell if anyone can parse out how Rep. Benishek came to that assertion. But like any true science-type genius, he knows that simply repeating it over and over will make it true. He's gonna take that twig of a talking point by the throat and throttle it to within an inch of its thin little life.
“Well, I’m not sure where it fits in, but I’m not sure there’s any evidence to prove that there’s man-made catastrophic global warming,” Benishek said.
“And you really, really in your heart believe it?” Peterson asked.
“Well, there’s no significant scientific evidence,” Benishek said.
“I could throw some science at you,” Peterson said.
You could, but he'd duck. Rep. Dan Benishek knows science-fu.
“Well, I am a scientist,” Benishek said. “You know, I believe in peer-reviewed science. But, I don’t see any peer-reviewed science that proves there is man-made catastrophic climate change.”
Ah, it seems to be the
I don't see part that's the problem here. Since the good House Republican does not
see the peer-reviewed science, that means it does not exist. This is the same reason you can get out of a traffic ticket by simply explaining to the officer that you were too busy playing Candy Crush on your phone to
see the red light, therefore no such light exists, and the same reason toddlers are convinced that if they cover their eyes with their hands
you can no longer see
them. It is also the reason I do not entirely believe Dan Benishek exists—I have not seen even one peer-reviewed paper proving that he does—and why the jury remains out on whether Australia is real or a figment of countless generations of conspiratorial geographers just looking to sell us updated globes.
For the record, 97 percent of peer-reviewed science agrees that man-made climate change is real whether Rep. Dan Benishek has "seen" them or not. You might try to show those papers to Rep. Benishek, but be warned he might injure himself during your presentation by trying to jump out his office window. At least have the decency to do it on the ground floor, please.
Michigan deserves better than this. Chip in $3 to one of these Michigan candidates.
