Hey Everyone, The Watauga County Voting Rights Task Force today WON a lawsuit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections!! The Superior Court Judge ruled that they had to allow a site on the Appalachian Campus for early voting in this election. This overturns the State Board's constant efforts to deny this to us, when 30% of our voters are students and those aged 21-25. This means that students and others, who were disenfranchised because of the new NC State Law that will not allow their votes to count if they are in the wrong precinct on Election Day and who can't vote in the right precinct because the polling sites have been moved by the local Republican-led Board of Elections too far away to get there by foot or any means other than having a car, will be able to vote early in an accessible place on campus! We won against the board and the Attorney General, who represented them. They may very well take it to the Court of Appeals, so I'm trying not to get too excited, but, for now, it's so good to have won this after all our hard work!
