"Climate change is the defining issue of our generation. We will be measured by how we respond to this crisis."
said Philippines, chief climate diplomat Yeb Sano on Day 14 of the 1,000 kilometre march, which is scheduled to arrive November 8, one year after Typhoon Yolanda killed 6000 people, in Tacloban.
The march began in Manila on October 3rd.
Along its route, the Climate Justice March is making stops in villages to educate people about how to prepare for future extreme climate events.
“It aims to empower communities and help them become resilient to the impacts of disasters and climate change,” said Sano.
While scientists have yet to conclusively determine if climate change will result in more frequent and deadly typhoons in the Pacific, sea levels are rising more rapidly in the area than the global average. (source RtCC)

World Food Day October 16
Tomorrow's focus is in solidarity with La Via Campesina'sWorld Day of Action for Peoples’ Food Sovereignty and will specifically focus on how harmful energy such as agrofuels and mega-dams are to the world's food supply.
"Food Sovereignty is the right of the world’s peoples to produce and to consume healthy food. Food cannot be reduced to a commodity in the hands of the transnational corporations."
The international peasant and family farmer movement, La Via Campesina, is calling upon its member organisations across the world, and on grassroots organisations, allied social groups, and concerned consumers to be part of the and against transnational corporations, this coming October 16th, 2014."
World Day of Action for Food Sovereignty and against Transnational Corporations – we will be mobilising: taking over land, holding forums; organising agro-ecological festivals; occupying the streets of towns and cities. We will raise our voices in order to express our resistance to landgrabbing and to the use of toxic agricultural chemicals and genetically-modified seeds - and to call for Comprehensive Agrarian Reform and Food Sovereignty , which together imply a radical transformation towards a fair and decent food system for the world’s peoples.
Reclaim Power's Week of Action continues after World Action for People's Food Security, with days of action focusing on coal, community energy, action against oil and calling for a stop to waste incineration.
"This week we hope to see climate change hit the news again. Not because of another catastrophic weather event but because activists from around the world are taking part in a week of action against the dirty energy companies and institutions that fuel climate change," said Worlds Development Movement's Sam.Lund-Harket."The result is energy injustice: billions of people without basic energy access and the continued dependence on dirty fossil fuels. We need to “Reclaim Power” and demand democratically-controlled, alternative energy solutions."
