Any of you old timers remember being a kid, and having your parents threaten that one? With the antics of the people who worked at a certain Texas hospital--I am having several moments a day like that.
Where children act so nasty, and refuse to behave to such a degree, that the only thing you can do is pull the car over, turn around and go back home.
Another person was quarantined on a cruise ship going to Belize. I haven't even finished my goddamn coffee yet and this is the first headline I see in the morning. Like the other selfish nurse wasn't bad enough with her fever and her planes, this guy is on a cruise ship that went to another country.
You just want to ask them: When you got your medical degree, did it come with a toy and kid's meal? I mean seriously, WHAT THE HOLY FUCK PEOPLE!
Of all the selfish, thoughtless, unprofessional crap I have seen in my life--And I sadly have seen a lot, but this? This takes the cake. Congrats assholes! You win the internetz!
I don't want to read or hear any excuses for this bullshit behavior. When someone has you under observation as a potential EBOLA patient, you stay at home. If the cruise ship or the plane or your in-laws refuse to understand, you tell the public and we will help you shame them into correct behavior. But don't drag your potentially sick ass onto a plane or a cruise ship or a public bus or into a school or even a grocery store, because we want to avoid more exposures.
We have gone from 7 potential exposures, to 100, down to 70, up to 300 and now 800 that we know of.
That's over 1000 people. Each time that number jumps, the statistical likelihood of another new exposure becomes greater.
You know Typhoid Mary was an illiterate immigrant facing prejudice for her class and ethnicity. She couldn't read and like many of her contemporaries didn't understand basic germ theory. What's their excuse?
Seriously, either it's Texas Medical personnel or it's just the people trained with this particular hospital, but there needs to be some serious instruction on how not to be a walking disease vector. It's not rocket science. Anyone who has worked in the food handling industry could tell you how to avoid spreading germs.
Being under observation isn't an Ebola Vacation. At least not in the sense that you go travel the world and sneeze on others. You stay isolated. And didn't I read last night that Judge Jenkins had all those under observation for Ebola, sign an agreement to stay isolated and not travel? One that was binding? What is this? See The Guardian Story here. Judge Jenkins created those agreements and this appears to maybe be his first test case.
Did the Cruise lines refuse to give the money back or exchange tickets? Because if that was the case, they need to let the public know so we can slam that company. Even then--how many lives are worth the cost of some cruise tickets?
I know that some will repeat the low risk mantra. It's all fun and games til you become the lucky one. That stupid nurse on the planes--she was running a fever and now the second plane is contacting passengers. Yea, she was stupid. And now a whole lot of people are sitting at home, sweating bullets wondering if they are going to catch what she got. Wondering if they exposed their kids or their spouses or neighbors or co-workers. Not because they were selfish and stupid, but because she was. She is supposedly a nurse and she should know better. I would not ever want her working on me if this is indicative of her quality of care as a nurse.
This doesn't have to be a big problem. But in order to ensure that, this situation has to be handled quickly and correctly. And this is not happening in Texas Presbytarian. In fact in addition to being a vector site for Ebola,it appears primarily and foremost to be a vector for weaponized stupid. Sorry doesn't mean anything if this institution and it's employees keep making the same "mistakes" over and over. If I keep stomping on your toes and telling you sorry over and over as I keep stomping, at what point does my apology seem empty and false? Thanks to Dro for covering the Guardian stories.
Lets recap:
1. Turns away very sick man who told officials he just flew in from Liberia while he was running a fever of 103. He is only admitted later when his family contacts the CDC in the hopes that someone will listen.
2. Admn and staff balk at isolating the patient or utilizing proper safety gear.
3. Hospital failed to hold training on Ebola containment measures even though CDC announced warning 3 months ago. Admn tried to blame nurses for misdiagnosis which pissed many nurses and others off because nurses cannot make diagnosis, they are not authorized.
4. Nurses say there was inadequate equipment and no training, that they didn't even use safety gear at first even though man was projectile vomiting and sever diahrrea.
5. No one is surprised when one nurse is infected. This should have put all the personnel on alert, since his specimens received no special handling and probably left trails of disease throughout the hospital.
6. Other personnel under observation, because they were involved in the Duncan Case--one is busted after leaving town on a plane to Cleveland Ohio and back, while running a fever. AND Some idiot at the CDC gave her the green light unbenknownst to other members of the CDC later who wonder why she got on a plane in her condition at all. hundreds of passengers have been exposed along with crew and other workers. A child had to be isolated because of her. Nice Work Jerkface!
Frontier has reached out to passengers on five flights that used the same airplane Vinson flew on, the Denver Post reported. Anyone who flew with her is encouraged to call 1-800-CDC INFO...Some schools in Texas and Ohio have also canceled classes because students or staff flew on the same airplane as Vinson. Huffpo
7. Now a third case of a hospital worker who was involved in that case is caught on a cruise ship to Belize, potentially exposing 800 people on that ship.
Currently, officials are monitoring 76 people who had possible contact with Duncan when he was hospitalized, and the Texas hospital has made rooms available for any staffers who want to self-isolate, out of an abundance of caution. Huffpo
So what's next? Will a feverish employee from the hospital be taking their kids out for Halloween, or handing out candy? Well be sure and mouth it first, so we can be extra sure. Or maybe they will teach a cooking class at a local YMCA? Remember washing your hands is for wussies! I am sure we can find something stupid for them to do that could expose even more people unnecessarily to weaponized stupid.
I know, take your feverish ass to a sauna, so you can work up a good sweat, but don't tell anyone, and just sit there and feel the pestilence oozing out of your pores you fucking morons!
Jumping Gerbils, My kids could do a better job at stopping this disease. I am so very thankful that the centers involved in *Professionally treating Ebola victims perform a damn site better than that Texas Hospital.
I have to go make more coffee, so maybe it will help me stop twitching. This isn't panic, this is just flat out pissed off. As in unfuckingbelievable!
Here are some instructional videos about germs.
All germs were not created equal. Some like the cold are not usually deadly as compared to Ebola. But the initial precautions taken to stop the spread of germs are the same. The difference being that the consequences of catching Ebola are so much more serious, that there is a moral imperative to avoid infecting others and to take extra precautions to stop it's spread. So that beyond hand washing and not sneezing on others, and other usual germicidal tactics, extra work needs to be done, to contain the Ebola Virus. And one of those actions is Self Isolation or Voluntary Quarantine. If that cannot be done, I personally have no problem letting someone else do it for you.
I want everyone who is infected to survive and get the best treatment possible. But in order for that to happen we have to keep the infection rate to a bare minimum and that means not being stupid.
