ALEC, as noted here and here, recently called out the Unitarians, among all religious people, for conducting a "misleading smear campaign."
I'm specifically calling out EBay for enabling ALEC's namecalling. Why? Because the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is currently hosting a petition to tell EBay to leave ALEC. My guess is that's why ALEC has singled out the Unitarian denomination to disparage as "professional activists" conducting a "misleading smear campaign," even though the UUSC is not the "Unitarian Church."
Microsoft, Yahoo, Yelp, and Google have all left ALEC. Why does EBay remain and contribute to that organization? EBay's membership, having attracted UUSC's attention, appears to have triggered a call from ALEC disparaging this one religious denomination. If EBay chooses to say with ALEC, I believe they are choosing to condone right-wing efforts to divide Americans and that EBay will become known as a company that lends its valuable brand to conservative, divisive political organizations.
Please, sign the UUSC petition to tell EBay to leave ALEC. Doing so will help ALEC's plea backfire.
Much as I dislike promoting my own diary, I'd love to see this one hit the recommended list. Then millions of EBay customers that visit DKos will see where EBay stands on the political spectrum. Perhaps this revelation will help EBay pull the plug on ALEC. That would be a great headline to see!
