As mentioned last August in a previous report, dead air, which simply means radio silence, is described as one of the worst things that can happen to a station. Impatient listeners switch to another station. A minute of dead air may not sound like a long time. But in radio, it's like a lifetime.
It happened again on Cumulus Radio's WWCK in Flint, MI on Monday, October 20 during Rush Limbaugh.
Like the last time dead air was caught on WWCK on August 25, it was due to a glitch in the station's automation software. The commercial break occurred during Rush Limbaugh on October 20 at 12:30 p.m. No paid ads aired during the break. All the spots were free public service announcements (PSAs). It began with a Department of Housing and Urban Development PSA which was interrupted after a couple of seconds by an American Planning Association PSA. It was followed by a Peace Corps PSA and a spot for BoostUp.org from the U.S. Army and the Ad Council. Following the BoostUp.org PSA was a minute of dead air before Rush Limbaugh returned from the break. Enjoy the dead air which you can hear in this link in the BoostUp.org PSA entry in the Stop Rush database.
WWCK has not run a local ad during Rush Limbaugh that was recorded since early August when campaign ads for Tea Party activist Todd Courser were run by the Koch brothers' Americans for Prosperity for his successful campaign for the Republican Party nomination for Michigan State Representative for Lapeer County. This writer supplied the airchecks with the ad to his Democratic Party opponent for the state legislature seat, Margaret Guerrero DeLuca.
I do not count local dealer tags for national advertisers as local advertisers. This includes the local tag for Mahindra Tractors dealer Lloyd Miller & Sons in Corunna, MI.
