This election cycle has made it obvious that the two major political parties in America inhabit entirely different realities.
One party wants to talk about how to lift millions of working class people out of poverty.
The other party doesn't even want to talk about that. They are too busy shitting their pants while tilting at windmills.
The ever shifting fear kaleidoscope of the Right Wing freak out du jour is frankly exhausting. I don't know how these wingnuts maintain the energy to be constantly terrified at so many things at once, but regardless of what Republicans are shitting themselves over at any given moment the central cause of their freak out is obvious. It's Obama's fault.
This is an off year election, and base turnout is of a prime importance. Since the GOP can't talk about their tremendously unpopular policy proposals they have to stick with what their base likes, hating on Obama.
The thing for me is that most of what the GOP base freaks out over and blames on Obama doesn't even make sense
More below the fold
Ebola? Obama's fault. Because . . .
ISIS? We're all gonna die, and it's Obama's fault
Every month it seems like the GOP finds a new horrible strawman to shit themselves over, and inevitably it's Obama's fault. The media follows along dutifully with updates about how that scary thing that killed one or two people just might kill us all and the GOP base claps their seal flippers together as the RW punditocracy tosses it another mackerel of red meat.
Whether it is a scofflaw cattle rancher, the horrors of war torn children showing up at our border, or Obama saluting our troops with a cup of coffee in his hands, the true believers of the GOP base vacillate from one idiotic pants shitting fear to the next and if you are like me none of it makes any damned sense.
And it's not supposed to. Not to you. If you were dumb enough to fall for this crap you'd be a Republican by now.
Any good news about the accomplishments of the Obama Administration are brushed aside while the media and snakeoil slinging wingnuts go on about the new freak out du jour, and while the freak outs fizzle out one after the next the source of all the bad things in America stay the same for the cult of Conservativism. That one.
So here we have another election, just as in 2012, where good fucking luck getting a Republican to talk about what they will do when given power. Look at this scary scary boogeyman, oooooh, he's under your bed right now with ISIS and ebola and unsecured borders and it's all because of the policies of Barack Obama.
Because of course it is.
The things that motivate the GOP base are obvious. Fear and hate. They fear everything and they hate everyone who isn't the GOP base. That's why Ted Nugent was the perfect surrogate for the GOP's last Presidential nomination, a hate filled crusty white guy who shits himself. Why? That doesn't matter, all that matters is it's Obama's fault. That's all the GOP base cares about. That and more wars and more tax cuts for the rich.
I sincerely hope that America doesn't reward this berserk cult of hysterical know-nothings with control of the Senate. Of course, that is up to you, the voter. But the problem isn't just Democratic turnout. The problem is that the GOP has devolved into a belligerent, pants shitting cult of gullible, easily terrified dipshits who can be reliably counted on to tilt at one windmill after the next. There is only one thing you can do about the paranoid hordes of Republican arrgle barrgle. Vote.
Vote like your future depends on it. Because it does.
I leave the floor to you . . .
