Not much of a diary but I felt I had to report. I live in the 5th Congressional District in Chicago. This district includes some suburban towns as well as mid-North Chicago.
People were voting in fairly large numbers for the mid-terms. I actually had to wait in line for a voting booth. If one votes for all the judges and amendments it took over 15 minutes to vote. All of the booths were filled during that time, with people waiting.
I remember 2010 when the room was practically empty. There were over half a dozen booths that were empty almost all the time - it was a very low turnout all day then.
I don't know if this is as great news as I think it is, but if other districts and states reflect this situation, I have great hope for keeping the Senate and picking up a few democratic governors.
Mike Quigley is our Congressperson and I believe he will easily be re-elected. Our state rep, Sarah Feigenholtz ran unopposed. Durbin will be re-elected because Oberweiss is a tool. Oberweiss makes ice cream and is against a woman's right to choose (of course, he's a rethuglican).
While I am not an avid fan of our governor Quinn, I think he will be re-elected as well. I keep feeling Dems are showing up to vote!
