A Danish McDonald’s worker who makes
$21/hour is trying to support working brothers and sisters in this country who make about $8/hour.
How do you explain that?
The single largest explanation is that Denmark has 67 percent union membership. The US has about 11 percent. The difference in the price of a burger is less than a buck.
This is a great example of the single most important thing we could do to rebuild the middle class, and end the recession-depression.
Union membership would:
• help folks secure their future
• lower healthcare costs
• give our kids and grandkids a future to look forward to
• reduce the ridiculous and obscene wealth and income gap
• secure our democracy
We have to give every worker in America the absolutely free, unfettered right to form a union, organize a union, join a union, and negotiate a union contract.
Union membership = worker power = higher wages and better living conditions = stronger democracy!
This might be a good thing to keep in mind for Thanksgiving when Uncle Harry has a bit too much wine and starts an ignorant rant about unions and the economy.
