VICE released a 24-minute documentary about Jesse, titled, The War on Kids. This is the story of Jesse Snodgrass, a kid with Asperger's syndrome who was arrested by an undercover cop posing as a student at Jesse's high school. This is the story of how the war on drugs preys on the most vulnerable. A short while after VICE published it on their site, they posted it on YouTube and it went past the million views mark after about three weeks. We feel that VICE did a good job with this, and it's a great companion piece to the Rolling Stone article.

Chastened by the conservative movement’s startling success at using national money to dominate state legislatures, liberal activists this week will ask top donors to support a plan to reverse the precipitous Democratic decline in state governments, where the party was trounced yet again on Tuesday. President Barack Obama’s former liaison to the states will launch a major new state-focused organization called the State Innovation Exchange—or SiX for short—before donors on Friday at the annual winter meeting of the Democracy Alliance liberal funding club.

The practice of civil forfeiture has come under fire in recent months, amid a spate of negative press reports and growing outrage among civil rights advocates, libertarians and members of Congress who have raised serious questions about the fairness of the practice, which critics say runs roughshod over due process rights. In one oft-cited case, a Philadelphia couple’s home was seized after their son made $40 worth of drug sales on the porch. Despite that opposition, many cities and states are moving to expand civil seizures of cars and other assets. The seminars, some of which were captured on video, raise a curtain on how law enforcement officials view the practice.
