Standard disclaimer: Leave your loathing of meta, World of Warcraft, or community diaries outside. If you think we should be playing your MMO instead, start a guild and write a recruitment diary. Don't leave a comment here and then get all hurtful when it isn't received with flowers and candy. This goes double for people coming in to attack guildies over other diaries or comments - STAY OUT! Standard advertisement: Wreck List is the Daily Kos World of Warcraft guild. We are Horde-side on the Garrosh server. We're getting close to the membership cap, so we'll have to put you on a waiting list if you want to join. To get on the list, read this diary and visit the Guild web site. Yes, you have to be Horde. No, you don't have to be hardcore - casuals, PvPers, and people that just want to hang out on guild chat are all welcome. |
More below the fold:
So, how about that expansion drop?
Yeah, I was intending to post about this last week full of disconnects, unscheduled maintenances, system restarts, two-hour login queues, bottlenecks, and the other crap that we had to endure.
And I had reason. You'd think Blizzard would know by now that bad things happen when you funnel every player on the server to one or two zones.
But to be fair... they were enduring an enormous DDoS attack at roughly the same time their membership was going from seven million and change back up over ten million.
There were Blizzard system administrators who didn't get to go home last weekend. It wouldn't surprise me if their tech crews put in a hundred hours last week, and better than sixty this week.
And I once applied for a sysadmin position there, and got as far as a phone interview.
I'm too old and slow and in pain for all-nighters. Thank Arthas I didn't get that job.
Let's start with the Team Z report from Tvath:
So I hope everyone's gotten a chance to start leveling and garrison-building. So far I am LOVING this expansion!
A couple of team things:
* Grats to Vanillapie for being the first Team Z person to hit level 100!
* If you are lagging behind in leveling, do not fret. It is a sign that you have a life. Let us know what it's like, OK?
* Dkosmama has been kind enough to add me to the Hero ranks in Wreck List (replacing Rubi, who is retiring to the status of Elder). That means I can invite to the main guild, if you feel like moving any alts over for Draenor leveling purposes.
* One of the things I love about Draenor so far is that Blizz has some little encouragements built in for cooperation. For instance, if you have gear you want to disenchant, but you're not an enchanter or don't have the enchanting building, you can group up with someone who does (me, for example) and come over to my garrison and do it there. There's also a fish you can throw at someone to boost his/her fishing skill, and so forth. In the spirit of Wreck List, please call on your teammates if you need a hand, and offer help when you can! Also, pay attention to Mama's requests to fill up the guild bank with mats to help your guildies. Socialism works.
* I'm thinking we do not need to hold a formal raid this weekend, or perhaps indeed until new raids drop in a few weeks. However, I'll be on during our normal time and if we want to run some dungeons or do some cooperative questing, that's great. If you have a suggestion for how we can best use the time, feel free to speak up.
Finally, THANK YOU all for being awesome. You made Pandaria way more fun for me.

Congratulations on the well-deserved promotion, Tvath!
Here's Pamena's Report on All the Things:
Pamena report on all the things:
With the release of WOD, Team PM is doing dungeon running in groups of 5 on Monday and Thursday nights, and our inaugural run Monday was great fun. We just did the first 2 dungeons in normal, but we'll progress further in the next couple of weeks. It's a good way for team members to get to know each other again!
Thoughts on WOD:
I have so many thoughts on the expansion it's hard to know where to start, but I'll first say I am having SO MUCH FUN! This is way more fun than I thought it would be from my limited playing on the beta, especially the garrisons. I was skeptical when I first read about them, but the actual experience of them is wonderful. The entire expansion is beautifully designed, the story lines are great, and the questing experience so far has been terrific. Some wonderful cut scenes throughout really add to the stories - if you haven't done the Battle for Shattrath in Telador yet, don't miss it!
In the last week in the evenings, we've regularly had 45-50 or more guildies on, and we've seen many new faces and old faces returned - it's great! I hope everyone has read Mama's pst at the web site, the "Letter from Mama on the next chapter for our guild" - in addition to news about promotions, Mama clearly lays out what makes our guild different and wonderful!
I don't have time to write more, I have to back to seeing the Spires of Arrak! The new Arrakoa are one of my favorite things about the expansion - I'm also looking forward to hitting 98 on Pamena soon so I can see Khadgar's servant in my garrison! At least I think that's what's going to happen, but who knows! Something new to discover every day, woot!
Molten Core Anniversary Event:
WOW's 10th Anniversary event starts tomorrow, the 21st, and one of the features is a special, temporary raid - 40 man Molten Core, baby, old school time! It's for level 100's, and I have put a guild event for a run on the calendar for Saturday night, our first Sat Night Massacre of WOD (with Mageartin's permission, of course). We have over 40 level 100's now in the guild, and probably there will be several more by Saturday night ( I hope I'm one of them!) so I hope people will want to tackle it. This will not be our only run - I think this would be a good SNM for the next few weeks to make sure we get everyone in who wants to do this in a guild run. Look out Rags!

And here's a quick Team Kaels update from Ninotchka:
I don't have much news aside from what Pamena wrote. Team Kaels isn't meeting up officially until the raids open on December 2nd. A bunch of us are running heroics. Some of us went for a challenge mode dungeon last night and I let down the team. I'm going to love challenge dungeons eventually, but right now I hate them. Every piece of gear you have scales down to 630 and all gems are deactivated, so some of us saw our item level drop significantly. I signed out in exhaustion on the 4th boss. I think if we had reached her when I was fresher we might have made it, but my reflexes were seriously slow by that time of the night. I apologize to my long-suffering team, and I vow I'm not doing any more of these until I'm closer to full 630 gear.

Wait, scales
down to 630? And here I thought I was doing well at 607.
That's all I have for this week. For the Horde!
