Eric Cantor
Former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor appeared on CNBC's
Squawk Box on Wednesday, and the show's hosts took the opportunity to go looking for evidence that President Obama is a big meanie to Republicans. Cantor cheerfully complied. When asked
if Obama contacted him after his primary defeat, Cantor said:
"Not a word."
Because all of the president's previous calls to Cantor had
gone so well. And of course when you've suffered a total surprise of a humiliating defeat, hearing from someone you've battled with and actively disrespected is the first thing you want. Cantor did note that "I did hear from the vice president several times and several of the members from both sides." Hmm ... you think maybe contacting people like Cantor under such circumstances is the kind of thing that falls to the vice president?
CNBC deserves a shout out not just for the trolling inherent in the question (seriously, who did and did not make condolence calls is worth television news time for?) but for the framing in its write-up of the interview:
Eric Cantor had spent years in the trenches as House majority leader, trying to compromise with the White House on many of the thorny issues facing the nation.
Ahahahahahaha. Trying to compromise with the White House. That's rich—tell me another!
