Don't trust the media. That was a message I heard from a very young age. The media is nothing but liars, out to capture your dime and nothing but propaganda..
Funny thing happened on the way to the ball though, the public at large seems to have bought into that message and now few people trust "the media" as if "the media" is the same as "the government", some monolithic monster that is made up of the same rotten guy.
Guess what? it's not.
Is Dailykos part of "the media"? I'm pretty sure it is.
Is Fox News part of the same "the media"? Well, by golly it sure is.
So where do we as a media consuming public go from here? Do we keep buying into the narrative that it's all the media spewing lies and corrupting the youth of America or do we find a way out of the self fulfilling prophesy of "the media" where nothing we're told is the truth no matter where the message is from?
If it's true that nobody trusts "the media" then it would seem that television and movies and all media outlets would have been long extinct except one thing, this election "the media" got really, really rich from ad revenue that got us the worse congress money can buy.
Like a politician, I'm no scientist and I'm also no media expert, but I sort of know when my 55 years on this earth have been one contradictory message after another. It's so contradictory that even while writing this I can quite literally feel my head about to explode with 'where am I going with this?' Hopefully by time I click the 'save & preview' button my monitor won't be a big mess of brain matter and my blood, but we'll see. If it is you probably won't be reading this so it won't much matter.
We find out about nearly every national and international event through "the media" so which is it? Is "the media" just lying to us and none of it has ever really happened or is it really happening and "the media" actually told the truth about something?
It's really easy to sit back lazily and assume all media is corrupt and bought and paid for by billionaire fat cats, but how can this be when I have a few moments to put my two cents worth here on DailyKos and express my feelings and yet the bad guys in black hats haven't broken down my door to drag me off to the FEMA death camp down the road...yet...?
So "the media" narrative has been lost somewhere to the extent that few people, left or right believe anything they hear or see on TV or print.
From Kos, The Nation and other left leaning, 'tree hugging, bleeding heart liberal' sources it's the evil Fox, Evil Sunday talk shows are mere right wing mouth pieces and the right wing still will have us believe "the media" is out to get them. Yet people tune in daily to soak up the lies spewed by "the media" and buy into the narrative about "the media" as if we're all moths drawn to the back porch light in late August just ready to die from a burning light bulb.
Can Kos and The Nation all be liars and are mere mouth pieces of "The Media" AND be in league with Fox at the same time? They're all part of "the media" right?
So even though I'm rambling on here and have likely lost most of you by now the question remains, How do we recapture the "the media" narrative and leave even part of the media consuming public with a feeling that they actually have been told the truth or is this just a big fat pipe dream and we're doomed to nothing but lies and deciete forever and ever and ever?
