There were no major marriage equality rulings this week. Things seem to have slowed down as we enter the holiday season.
Arizona state officials filed a motion to stay its Ninth Circuit appeal pending SCOTUS resolution of the marriage equality cases before it. And, the Ninth Circuit has granted that motion.
South Carolina state officials requested that the Fourth Circuit hold its (marriage equality) appeal. They intend to seek SCOTUS review. South Carolina has also appealed its second marriage equality case to the Fourth Circuit.
The Tenth Circuit has denied Kansas' request for an intial en banc hearing in that marriage equality case.
In Nebraska, the plaintiffs in that marriage equality case have filed a motion for a preliminary injunction. They also amended their complaint to add more defendants.
In Florida, the Eleventh Circuit has denied Florida state officials' motion to extend the stay (ordered by the district court) pending appeal. At this point, same-sex couples will be able to get married in Florida on January 6, 2015.
In Mississippi, the Fifth Circuit has granted state officials motion for an emergency stay pending appeal. They also expedited briefing and will hear arguments for this case the same day as oral arguments for the cases out of Texas and Louisiana (on January 9).
Missouri legislators have filed a motion to intervene in the state marriage equality case. That ruling in Jackson County court required Missouri to recognize out of state marriages of same-sex couples. In addition, Missouri state officials have appealed the federal marriage equality ruling to the Eighth Circuit.
The SCOTUS is scheduled to consider cert. petitions in marriage equality cases on January 9, 2015.
