Disclaimer: I cannot post photos nor can I name names. The woman in this story, which is true, has two months to live. I won't ask her. I'll just share without giving her more pain.
One year ago Persiflage and I agreed to adopt a baby kitty from Florida. His mom and sibs had been killed by a dog, he was the lone survivor. A wonderfully humane woman from south Florida facilitated his foster, his veterinary care and transport. We met the final driver about two hours from our home on December 17th and Guido was home for Christmas.
This lovely woman and I are FB friends thus in constant touch. The other day she sent out a heartfelt request. A lady is dying, her kitty needs help.
She explained that the woman, I'll call her Sue, is in Hospice dying of a terminal illness. My friend learned of her through another friend. Sue has no family, lived alone in an apartment, and entered Hospice somewhat quickly.
Sue has a kitty who was the only survivor of a dog attack. She had been feeding and tending the kitties and their Mom and Dad when the dog killed all but the one baby. So of course Sue adopted Baby. She adores him.
When Sue suddenly had to go to Hospice she continued paying her rent, at $1500 per month, so that Baby would continue to have a place to live. The handyman, bless his soul, fed Baby. Baby was alone, save for this wonderful man, for six weeks.
When my friend learned of this she went to see Sue. Asked how she could help. I suppose you know what happened. She got Baby, found him a foster and he has a home in the next couple of weeks.
But this wasn't enough for my friend. She has taken personal items to Sue, with the help of the handyman. She has initiated a Christmas card drive for Sue. She has decorated Sue's room for the holidays. And today. Today she arranged for Baby to visit Sue at Hospice. With friends there too. And gifts. And a shake from McDonald's. I so wish I could share the photos. Beautiful. Priceless.
Sue is getting closure, as is Baby. Sue can die knowing Baby is safe and cared for. She could say goodbye. So could Baby. It was a celebration of loving kindness, of true humanity.
In the midst of the greed, the lies, the sell outs, the total avarice, this story will shine like a beacon for me. The good folks are still out there. Nothing can make them give up and go away. Thankfully.
Just wanted you to know. Two souls are safe thanks to others who care.
Update as of today...
Flowers were sent to Sue from everyone, a beautiful and cheery bouquet. As well, since Sue's Kindle was pooped out she was given a gently used one, wiped clean, with her info entered and a favorite author's book she wanted to read purchased. Also, money was collected for her to buy more books through Amazon. "Baby" was a very happy kitty after reuniting with Sue and is thriving with his foster, especially since he saw Sue yesterday. Since so many of you were touched by this story I thought you would want to know.
